Australian One Cent
Conclusion
In addition to these general issues, a number of off metal strikes were produced in 1991 as part of the year's Masterpieces in Silver, again in 2006 and as part of the fine silver and gold proof sets, the gold issue being very rare, and again in 2011 as part of a two coin proof set. Furthermore, in 2012 a gold miniature proof set was released with an under-sized one cent coin struck in gold.
In 2017, the Royal Australian mint shifted towards new commemorative designs for one cent collectors. The first issue was part of a collection celebrating Australian children's book Possum Magic. This featured a possum reading a book on the reverse and the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
That same year, the mint issued the planetary coin set with a 2017 coloured 1c, and in 2019 a one cent commemorating 60 years of Mr Squiggle was introduced.
Other than these off-metal strikes, the series is relatively easy to complete in both proof and business strikes though obtaining them in very high grades can indeed be a challenge. We recommend starting off by getting a representation of each date, then upgrading as opportunities present themselves.
