The Jubilee large head series was produced from 1887 to 1890 at the Sydney and Melbourne
mints. The Jubilee Head series is characterized by a reverse
featuring Benedetto Pistrucci's depiction of St George and the Dragon, and an
obverse featuring Sir J. E. Boehm's Queen Victoria Jubilee Head and the
legend
VICTORIA D : G: BRITT : REG : F : D: ( Victoria by the grace of God, Queen of Britain, Defender of the Faith ).The series
is spread across two basic types of reverse and
obverse designs.
Obverse - Large HeadObverse - Small Head
The large head features a large bust of Queen Victoria best identified by the crown being embedded in the
rim, the small head however, has a crown
which barely touches the
rim.\
Reverse - Short TailReverse - Long Tail
The short tail features a wider, shorter tail of the horse while the Long Tail features a longer, more narrow tail on
the horse.The three Jubilee Head types are defined by their reverse and
obverse combination as in the table below:
