Sales History

?

The 1919 Half Penny was struck at the Sydney Mint to a total mintage of 3,326,400 pieces. Graded population data from PCGS shows a number of mint-state examples with the majority in the red-brown designation grading between MS62 and MS66. Collectors seeking a mint-state example of the type would do well in grades up to MS64 before the type becomes very expensive and scarce.

In early 1919 the Commonwealth Government began to consider minting its copper coins locally. Previously Australia's copper coins had been struck at the London and Calcutta branches of the Royal Mint or the Heaton & Sons private mint in Birmingham. After acquiring a new machine that was capable of working metals the Sydney Mint began producing Australia's 1919 half-pennies.
