Sales History

?

The 1951 florin is one of only two years struck bearing the Type II obverse featuring his majesty King George VI, the other being 1952. While a small number of bank rolls have surfaced, obtaining the coin in mint state can still be quite a challenge and if a higher mint state example is desired, a great deal of patience will be required. The date is usually relatively well struck up but most coins were sent up to Sydney by train before rolling resulting in coins often displaying numerous bagmarks making higher mint state pieces near impossible to source. The Melbourne mint also produced proof and specimen strikings of the year and a commemorative florin was also produced commemorating 50 years since Federation.
