The 1944-S Shilling was struck at the San Francisco Mint to a total
mintage
of 8,000,000. In the same year the Melbourne Mint also produced a further 14,576,000 pieces.
The San Francisco type can be differentiated by a small San Francisco 'S' mint-mark located below the ram on the reverse. Despite having a somewhat lower
mintage
the San Francisco type is very common across almost all grades. Collectors seeking a
mint-state example will do well with this type with MS64 examples often available for under one hundred dollars.
