The 1925 Shilling was struck at the Melbourne Mint to a mintage of 1,448,794. Every example of the year appears to have a three overdate which protrudes from the upper left part of the five. The relatively large mintage means that the type is quite accessible across most grades. PCGS population reports show that the majority of mint-state examples are around MS64 with the highest graded MS66.

An investigation by Jon Saxton for the Journal of the Numismatic Association of Australia has shown that the 1925 Shilling is a genuine overdate. He believes that the overdate was created by pressing the 1925 master die with a 1923 hub and a 192 hub. He suggests that the 1928 Shilling is also an overdate that was created in the same way but without the visible under-date.
