The 1911 Shilling was the first year of the George V shilling series and was struck at the Royal
Mint in London to a
mintage
of 1,700,000. This relatively low
mintage
for a first of series makes it a difficult coin to acquire in any grade. The average example of the date grades betweenG
and VG and obtaining examples beyond this is particularlychallenging. No significant hoards of 1911 shillings surfaced though
some mint-state examples are known. In mint-state it is about twice as common as the elusive 1912 and 1914 shilling but is
scarcer than the 1914 shilling. Like the 1910 it generally exhibits surfaces hairlines due to the distribution process from
England making it extremely difficult to obtain beyond MS64.
