Sales History

?

In 1951 the Royal Mint in London produced 18,000,000 Pennies for Australia. In the same year the Melbourne Mint produced a further 21,240,000 pieces and the Perth Mint an additional 12,888,000. The Perth variety can be distinguished from other varieties by a small dot mint-mark located along the right of the denomination 'PENNY'. The London Mint variety can be differentiated by a small 'PL' mint-mark right of the denomination 'PENNY'.

The 1951-Y Penny is substantially scarcer than the London and Melbourne variety. Collectors seeking a mint-state example will struggle, especially if sought with a good strike.
