In 1942 the Australian Penny was struck at both the Perth and Bombay Mint. There is one Perth
variety which can be identified by a small dot after the Y in 'PENNY' and two Bombay varieties; both featuring dots before
the 'P' and after the 'Y' in Penny and only one featuring a small 'I' mint
-mark under the obverse effigy. The Perth variety was struck to a
mintage
of 12,244,800 which was a reasonably large
mintage
for the series. The type is quite affordable across most grades, only becoming quite valuable beyond MS63.
