?

While an easy date in lower grades, the 1948 Perth mint half penny is scarce in mint state especially if sought in a higher mint state grade. This is due to the lack of notable hoards surfacing and the generally problematic strike of Perth mint copper of this era. The date is available up to MS64RB though is only represented by 2 examples in that grade. The lack of high grade examples is no doubt due to the typically rough handling process of the Perth mint and the typically problematic strikes. Common strike problems include uneven strikes, planchet flaws; Die clash and central strike weaknesses are almost always evident on business strikes.

Date set collectors will have no problem sourcing this coin in lower grades but if desired in mint state one may need to settle for a lower end mint state coin due to the lack of availability of higher end pieces
