The 1935 half penny is one of the most common dates in the series, readily available in circulated grades and almost as
common as the 1936 in mint states. The date is almost always well struck up but mint state examples
often exhibit fine surface hairlines from light circulation. This is due to the fact that most
mint states examples were pieces hoarded for being different around 1938-39 when the new obverse and reverse designs were
introduced. This meant that most mint state examples had experienced some circulation so finding examples in MS64 and higher
can be quite a challenge, much harder than say the 1919 or 1921. The date is almost always well struck up and often early
strikes exhibit fine die cleaning striations on the reverse as in the illustration below.

The Melbourne mint also produced commercial
proof strikes in 1935.
