The 2012 Gold Miniature Five Cent is part of a unique eight coin set containing all of Australia's original decimal designs in 99.99% gold. Each of these coins are struck in the same miniaturised size (11.15mm). This five cent piece features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, and Stuart Devlin's echidna design on the reverse. Devlin's initials (SD) can be found directly underneath the denomination (see the example below).
The gold miniature set was limited to a population of 2000 and was issued in a speciality red wooden case. The set was created as the Royal Australian mint wanted to create an affordable way to obtain a full set of Australia's stunning circulating coins in pure gold.
