Sales History

The Royal Australian Mint produced this one dollar piece to celebrate a century since the establishment of Girl Guides Australia. The reverse features the Girl Guides Australia logo with the dates "1910 2010" and the legend "CENTENARY OF GIRL GUIDING ONE DOLLAR". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2010".

The male-dominated Scouting movement was established in 1907 by Lieutenant General Robert Baden-Powell. In 1910 Baden-Powell recognised the need for a similar program for women and he was lead to create "The Girl Guides". Since 1910 Guiding groups emerged around the world with Australia being no exception. Since its founding over a million Australian women have or are still members of the Girl Guides.
