The Type II five cent was issued from 1985 until 1998 and featured the new Raphael Maklouf portrait of her majesty Queen
Elizabeth II on the obverse, with Stuart Devlin's echidna design on the
reverse. Devlin's initials (SD) can be found directly underneath the
denomination (see image below).
The series was struck exclusively at the Royal Australian Mint
in a cupro-nickel alloy with an additional silver
proof
produced in 1991 as part of the year's Masterpieces in silver set. An unknown number of extremely rare business strike
mules were also minted in 1988 and a unique 1991 proof mule was also minted.
