The type I dollar was issued solely in 1984 with the new type II obverse being introduced
in 1985. To replace the masses of dollar notes being withdrawn from circulation, the mintage
needed to be high. A total of almost 186 million coins were produced that year for circulation with close to an additional
million in collector sets and single coin issues. Consequently this issue is very easy to acquire in any grade with numerous
mint rolls still surfacing today.
