In 1959 1,506 commercial proof strikes were produced at the Melbourne
mint. The date is the toughest commercial proof florin to obtain in high quality with
most example being lightly rubbed or wiped due to the primitive packaging they were distributed with. The type can easily
be distinguished from the business strikeby the presence of a die blob
behind the emu's front leg on the reverse of the business
strike. This isn't present on the
proof
strike.
