The Kangaroo design continued into this type, while after the coronation of Elizabeth II in late 1952, the
obverse design changed to the bust of Elizabeth II facing to the right with the
legend, ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA ('Elizabeth
II, by the grace of god, queen'), designed by Mary Gillick. This
legend
continued until 1955, unlike other denominations where it concluded in 1954, but was altered due to public outcry of
the omission of FIDEI DEF ('defender of the faith').
All three dates are available though difficult compared with the rest of the Elizabeth II series, especially if sought
in higher mint state grades with all dates above MS63 being very scarce. The Perth mint struck
all 3 years despite the absence of a
mintmark
on the 1955. The 1953 features a dot after the 'A' in AUSTRALIA and the 1954 features a dot after the 'Y' of PENNY.
