The 1953 Penny was the first year in the Queen Elizabeth II series. It was struck at both the Royal Mint
branches in Melbourne and Perth with total
mintage
's of 6,936,000 and 6,202,800 respectively. These two varieties can be differentiated by a small dot
mint-mark located after 'AUSTRALIA' on the Perth issue. As a result of the similar mintage figures both mint varieties
demand relatively similar prices and are very affordable into mint
-state.
