One cent pieces were struck in 1919, 1920 and 1926 during the reign of King George V but diverted from the traditional
round design used since 1845 to implement a new square planchet which would continue right
into the British Malaya period. The reverse design features a partitioned ring design with
1 CENT in the inner circle with the legend, STRAITS SETTLEMENTS with the date written below
while the obverse features the Mackennal effigy of King George V and the
legend, GEORGE V KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA.All three years are readily available with examples with full brilliance turning up from time to time though acquiring a 1926 cent in such a state can be quite
a challenge.
