While the 1882 Melbourne with the truncated bust is a relatively scarce issue known by about 800 to 1000 examples, a hoard containing better grade examples surfaced in Ballarat and the Reserve Bank of Australia sale featured fivepremium examples of both 1882 types (Downies, 2005) ,allowing for their availability in mint state. The type can be differentiated by a truncated base of the bust of the Queen on the obverse.
