This 2014 Cocos Islands piece is part of the Australia at War collection. The reverse features a depiction of the HMAS Sydney above the sea and the SMS Emden below the sea and between them the text "BATTLE OF COCOS ISLANDS 1914". The obverse has the standard Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2014".

The Battle of Cocos Islands occurred on the 9th of November 1914. The German cruiser, SMS Emden, was attacking the British cable and wireless station in the Cocos Keeling Islands. The station was able to make a successful call of help and the Australian cruiser HMAS Sydney was ordered to respond. The single ship action was eventually won by the HMAS Sydney becoming the first victory of the Royal Australian Navy. (State Library of New South Wales, 2017)
