This Zeus coin was released in 2014 as part of the Perth Mint's
'Gods of Olympus' series. The three coin series was struck in high relief with an antiqued finish. The
reverse of this particular coin features Zeus in the clouds wielding a thunderbolt and sceptre with the inscription
'ZEUS.' The obverse houses the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth
II with the legend 'QUEEN ELIZABETH II - 2OZ 999 SILVER - 2014 TUVALU - 2 DOLLARS.'
After the Gods of Olympus overthrew the Titans and Giants the three brothers - Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades - each became
rulers of parts of the world.
(Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2017)
Hades became God of the Underworld, Poseidon the seas, while Zeus became God of the Sky.
(Mythweb, 2017)
In addition to this role he was also regarded as the supreme deity and King of the Olympian gods. He wielded a thunderbolt
and was able to control the weather, summoning thunder, lighting, rain and the winds. He had children with a number of women
including Apollo, Artemis, Hermes, Persephone, Athena, and Dionysus.
(Mark Cartwright, 2013)
