This Gloria Scott piece was released by the Perth Mint in 2014 as part of the Famous Ships That Never Sailed series. The series was issued to celebrate a number of famous fictional ships featured in literary and musical history. The reverse of this particular coin features a representation of the Glorial Scott and Sherlock Holmes with the legend 'Sherlock Holmes - The Gloria Scott.' The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend 'QUEEN ELIZABETH II - 1OZ 999 SILVER - 2014 TUVALU.'

The iconic English detective Sherlock Holmes and his companion Dr. Watson were created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the 1886 novel A Study in Scarlet. One of the fifty-six stories that Doyle penned about was the 'Gloria Scott.' The short story surrounded the ship, the Gloria Scott, which set sail from Falmouth to Australia. While sailing the ship broke into violence and the ship destroyed. The case was taken up by and solved by Watson and Holmes.
