Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth now celebrates 60 years on the throne. The Royal Australian mint issued this commemorative two dollar coin in recognition of this occasion. The reverse was designed by Aleksandra Stokic and features a purple striped circle containing a representation of St Edwards Crown in the middle. The reverse legend states "E II R CORONATION 60 YEARS TWO DOLLARS". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2013".

The coronation of Queen Elizabeth II occurred on the 2nd of June 1953. The coronation service took place in Westminster Abbey in London in front of a more than 8,000 guests. The ceremony was also the first British coronation to be televised and was watched by an astounding 20 million on BBC coverage. The service was complex and long with Queen Elizabeth swearing an oath of governance, being anointed with a holy oil, presented with the royal regalia, and finally crowned by the Archbishop of Canterbury as the crowd shouted "God save the Queen!".
