?

The 2013 Centenary of Banknotes fifty cent was issued as part of a 3 coin uncirculated set containing two twenty cent coins and this fifty cent coin to commemorate Australia's first banknotes, released in 1913. The designs of each respective coin were inspired by Australia's first ten shilling, one pound and five pound banknotes with the fifty cent coin presenting the original one pound design.

The reverse design of this piece, as was the case on the first Australian one-pound note, features an image of miners working at the Victoria Hill Mine in Bendigo, Victoria. The mine was the deepest in the world at 1.4 kilometres and yielded approximately $8 billion dollars worth of gold when adjusted for inflation. (Bendigo Tourism, 2017)
