In 2012 the Royal Australian Mint produced a four coin set that features the town halls of Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The coins are of a five dollar denomination and are produced from bronze with an antiqued finish. This piece was released at the ANDA Money Expo in Brisbane and features the Brisbane City Hall. The reverse features an elegant front view of the Brisbane City Hall with the legend "BRISBANE CITY HALL" and the denomination "FIVE DOLLARS." The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2012."

Construction of the Brisbane City Hall began in 1920 and was completed by 1930. (Brisbane City Council, 2017) The architecture of the building followed a formal renaissance style. Central to the design is an imposing clock tower based on the design of Saint Mark's Campanile in Venice. Today the building is the civic seat of the city and hosts a variety of major events over the year.
