In 2012 the Royal Australian Mint produced a four coin set that
features the town halls of Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The coins are of a five dollar denomination and are produced
from bronze with an antiqued finish. This piece was released at the ANDA Money Expo in Sydney and features the Sydney Town
Hall. The reverse features an elegant front view of the Sydney Town Hall
with the
legend
"SYDNEY TOWN HALL" and the denomination "FIVE DOLLARS." The obverse
features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the
legend
"ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2012."
During the 1880s the Sydney Town Hall was built on the site of the former Old Sydney Burial Ground. The building was designed
by unknown Tasmanian architect JH Willson who drew on Victorian/Beaux-Arts design concepts. Key to the building was the installation
of a substantial organ in the Centennial Hall.

The organ was constructed in London between 1886 and 1889 by Messrs William Hill and Sons. The organ consists of nearly
9,000 pipes and was described as "the finest organ ever built by an English organ builder."
