This Kookaburra piece was released in 2012 as part of the Perth mint 's Bush Babies series. The series features the infants of some iconic Australian animals. The reverse of this particular coin features a coloured depiction of a baby Kookaburra with the legend 'Australian Kookaburra.' The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend 'ELIZABETH II - AUSTRALIA - 1/2 OZ 999 SILVER - 2011 - 50 CENTS.'

The Kookaburra is an iconic Australian animal that can be found throughout eastern Australia. They have white plumage with brown on their wings, back, and parts of their faces. They are best known for their call which is often described as a laugh but is in fact a territorial call warning away competition. (Birds in Backyards, 2017)
