The third release of the Australia Remembers series which honours the service men and women, past and present, who have made history behind and beyond the battlefields. This coin commemorates the efforts of War Historians who were responsible for documenting Australia's military engagements and communicating this information back to Australia for both immediate use and future record. Charles Bean is was one such historian, he attended and reported on the events of the Australian effort during WW1. Bean would later become instrumental in the creation of the Australian War Memorial and the production of the monumental Official History of Australia in the War of 1914-1918. Since the Boer War the efforts of war historians like Charles Bean have provided civilians with an opportunity to glimpse the realities of military conflict.

The reverse of this piece was designed, based on an existing photograph, by Wojciech Pietranik. The design depicts an Australian solider deploying a tripod camera on top of a British Mark V tank. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
