This sterling silver two dollar coin about the HMAS Armidale II, was produced in commemoration of 100 years of the Royal
Australian Navy. It is part of a set of six coins that also includes HMAS AE2 Submarine, HMAS Yarra III, HMAS Australia II,
HMAS Hobart II and HMAS Hobart II. The
HMAS Armidale II was the first of fourteen patrol boats built to be used by the Royal Australian Navy. She was built by Austal Ships, Fremantle, Western Australia and commissioned on the 24th June 2005. The ship is 56 metres in length with an all aluminium hull. Each of the ships in the Armidale Class has a crew of 21 personnel and include 1 x Rafael Typhoon 25mm naval stabilised deck gun and 2 x 12.7mm machine guns. To assist with boarding's, each vessel has two 7.2 metre water-jet propelled rigid-hull inflatable dinghies. The ships are designed to patrol for 21 consecutive days but can endure a maximum of 42 days.
