The Battle of Midway 1942 piece was released in 2011 by the Perth Mint as part of the Famous Naval Battles series. The series commemorates the ships involved in some of the worlds most significant historical naval encounters. The reverse of this particular coin features a coloured depiction of a U.S dive-bomber above the Japanese aircraft carrier the Akagi. The reverse also features the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier and the legend 'BATTLE OF MIDWAY 1942.' The obverse features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend 'ELIZABETH II - COOK ISLANDS 2011 - 1 DOLLAR.'
