This Dingo piece was released in 2010 as part of the Perth mint 's Bush Babies series. The series features the infants of some iconic Australia animals. The reverse of this particular coin features a coloured depiction of a baby dingo with the legend 'Australian Dingo.' The obverse houses the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend 'ELIZABETH II - AUSTRALIA - 1/2 OZ 999 SILVER - 2010 - 50 CENTS.'

The Dingo is a wild dog that it is believed arrived in Australia about 4,000 years ago by Indonesian seafarers. It is a lean medium sized canine with yellow or ginger fur. They are opportunistic carnivores that hunt rabbits, wombats, wallabies, and even kangaroos. They are also known to hunt domestic animals and livestock which has resulted in the construction of an enormous fence that stretches nearly six thousand kilometeres across the country.
