The Rock-wallaby is featured as part of the Royal Australian Mint's innovative 'Land Series'. The series showcases animals from the Australian bush and was intended for both seasoned and younger collectors. The reverse of this particular coin was designed by Sabina Foster and depicts a coloured Rock Wallaby resting with the denomination "1 DOLLAR". The obverse includes the standard Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2008".

The Rock-wallaby is an agile animal that can be found in habitats featuring rocky and steep terrain where they can hide during the daytime. The genus is quite diverse with several species that include the yellow-footed, allied and black-flanked rock-wallaby. These species are surprisingly are often surprisingly distinct in appearance, size and conservation status. One of the most widespread species is the Brush-tailed rock-wallaby which can be found in southeastern Australia. (Department of the Environment and Energy, 2017)
