The Australian Quarantine one dollar coin was issued in 2008 to commemorate a century since the introduction of the Quarantine Act in 1908. The reverse features Wojciech Pietranik's artistic depiction of a luggage bag shaped like Australia with stickers representing all of the primary hazards and protection issues faced by quarantine. Also featured is a quarantine inspection dog and the legend "CENTENARY OF QUARANTINE 1908 - 2008". The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the standard legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2008".

Although often ignored the role of quarantine and bio-security has been essential in shaping modern Australia. The 1908 Quarantine Act began this history by providing the Department of Agriculture with the power to prevent the introduction of weeds and other noxious goods by inspecting luggage, cargo, and mail entering the country. (Weeds in Australia, 2017) These systems have ensured that Australia remains free from some of the world's most severe pests and diseases, a claim that few other countries can make. (Department of Agriculture and Water Resources, 2017) With this coin the Royal Australian Mint honours the century of work done by Australian quarantine officials.
