The Chinese Year of the Pig occurs every twelve years and to commemorate this the Royal Australian Mint issued this beautiful
edition. The Chinese Zodiac is composed of 12 animals arranged in order from the rat through to the pig. The order was established
by a race between the animals, thousands of years ago orchestrated by the Jade Emperor of China. Chinese astrology and the
Chinese zodiac are commemorated by The Australian Lunar Coin sequence. The 12-year sequence features coin releases marking
the Year of the Mouse, Year of the Ox, Year of the Tiger, Year of the Rabbit, Year of the Dragon, Year of the Snake, Year
of the Horse, Year of the Goat, Year of the Monkey, Year of the Rooster, Year of the Dog and Year of the Pig.
The 2007 Chinese Year of the Pig began on February 18th in the Chinese year 4705. It is normally the darkest day of the
month that the Chinese year will start and Chinese people celebrate up until the brightest day of the month around two weeks
later.
The reverse was designed by Vladimir Gottwald and shows a pig in the
centre and surrounded by Chinese decorations. It shows the year 2007 and the inscription "YEAR OF THE PIG". The
obverse features an Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of HM Queen Elizabeth II along with the
legend
"ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2007". The Chinese zodiac system suggests that a person born in the year of the pig would be
honest, sincere and genuine. They would have a heart of gold and everyone would admire them. They would be called upon when
sincere advice is needed and would always give a helping hand. Those born in the year of the pig are the best friend anyone
can have. They are also fun-loving and know how to throw a good party, but if rubbed the wrong way they can be extremely
vengeful. They can also be naive which allows others to take advantage of them. They have a great thirst for knowledge and
although they do not always say much when they do decide to speak nothing can stop them.
