The Diamond Wedding commemorative issue coin celebrates the union of HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. The reverse was designed by Stuart Devlin and shows the Queen and the Duke facing each other with a diamond shining below them. It is surrounded by a fanfare and the legend ELIZABETH AND PHILIP 50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY FIFTY CENTS. The obverse features an Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II, right-facing and crowned. It also has the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2007.

The Diamond Wedding of HM The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh was a momentous occasion. Not least of which was because she was the first British monarch to have celebrated such an anniversary. They first met at the wedding of Princess Marina of Greece to the Duke of Kent back in 1934. From this moment their romance blossomed and they were engaged on the 9th July 1947. Their marriage took place at Westminster Abbey in the morning of 20th November 1947. Prince Philip even had two stag parties, one for the media and another for his close and personal friends. This was the first, and so far, only time in British history, that the heir presumptive to the throne had been married. HM The Queen has been all that a monarch should be during her reign. She shows compassion and strength combined. To celebrate her diamond wedding event, there will be a Service of Thanksgiving in Westminster Abbey On the 20th of November. They will then travel to Malta where they lived as a young married couple which is where Philip was stationed as a Royal Naval officer (The British Monarchy, 2013) .
