To celebrate 20 years since the release of the one dollar coin the Royal Australian Mint has released a six coin set as part of the Masterpieces in Silver collection. The unique collection features reissues of original test pieces, unreleased designs, and other piece relevant to the development of the one dollar coin. (Royal Australian Mint, 2004)

This large Kangaroo piece is a reissue of the iconic one dollar design that has circulated since 1984. It is the first time that the design has been struck on a 40mm pure silver proof coin. The reverse design was completed by Stuart Devlin and features five kangaroos circling around the piece. The obverse houses the standard Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II with the legend "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2004."
