The obverse features the traditional Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, right-facing with tiara and earrings. It also has the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2004. The coin comes in an Orange football shaped box with a green lining with Royal Australian Mint gold printed inside the lid.

Australian Football League (AFL) is the official league of Australian Rules Football. The sport is distinctive to Australia and boasts the highest spectator attendance of any sport in the country. The origins of the games can be found throughout public schools in England but was first to create an official code of play. Invented in Melbourne, capital of the state of Victoria, the game was initially known as Melbourne, or Victorian rules football back in May 1959.
