The Sydney 2000 Olympics Five Dollar 'Festival of the Dreaming' Silver Coin is part of a collection containing 16 pieces. It was struck in sterling silver and were designed to represent both Australia's cultural history and environment. The set comprises of Festival of the Dreaming, Kangaroo, Early Settlement, Great White Shark, Immigrants, Frilled Neck Lizard, Commerce, Emu, Sports and the Arts, Koala, Sydney Harbour, Platypus, Opera House, Echidna, Air and Kookaburra. They are all in a Five Dollar denomination. The set was released in 2000 following the successful Olympic Games from Sydney, Australia.

The reverse of the coin, designed by Nova Peris-Kneebone has an intricate design with a ring of 37 boomerangs around the inside edge of the coin. Inside this are turtles, crocodiles, sharks, rays and various fish. In the centre of the coin are two figures that appear to be celebrating. Included between the turtles is theofficialSydney 2000Olympicslogo with the five coloured rings signifying the Olympics. The obverse features the traditional Raphael Maklouf 4th portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, crowned, facing right, with necklace andearringsand is surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 2000 5 DOLLARS. This coin along with the remaining fifteen to complete the set was originally packaged in a wooden display case and with a numbered certificate. On the outside of the lid is stamped with the text THE SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPIC SILVER COIN COLLECTION and the inner side with ROYAL AUSTRALIAN MINT and the PERTH MINT.

The Festival of the Dreaming was the first in a four year annual festival which was designed tobring indigenous arts, dance and music to the masses. It took place in 1997 and focused on Australian Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders. In 1998 it was 'A Sea Change'. This festival was focused on adventurers, explorers and immigrants but also about the evolution of Australia into what it has become today.Reaching the World was the title in 1999. This festival was about the performing arts, creative arts and Australia's cultural life with Australian artists interpreting facets of the Australian nation to the world. The Grand Finale was a month before the Sydney Olympics. The 2000 Sydney Olympic Arts Festival, 'Harbour of Life' was directed by Leo Schofield. All the visitors to theOlympicshad the opportunity to view fifty major productions and fifty exhibitions across forty-five venues. It started on the 18th August 2000 and lasted until 30th September 2000. Some of the exhibitions showed such things as 1000 years of history of theOlympicgames, an exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls as well as some amazing productions at the Sydney Opera House (About.com, 2013) .
