The Squirrel Glider is as the name implies, a squirrel that glides. It is the larger cousin to the Sugar Glider. It can glide to almost 100 metres when it wants to move between trees. Its scientific name is Petaurus norfolcensis which translates to Norfolk Island rope dancer, but the squirrel glider does not inhabit that area. The end of their tail is black and this can be used as a rudder which allows them to maneuver themselves midflight. They grow to approximately 20cm in length and have a white or yellowish underbelly dependant upon their origin. They usually have soft grey fur covering the body with a dark strip down middle (Wildlife Queensland, 2013) . They are creatures of habit and would not venture far from their local area. Even when their homes are lost they still remain. They can be found in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. They normally live within a range of 3-5 hectares and can have many nests in this area. Their nest is usually a hollow tree with a narrow opening that will act as defence against its prey.
