After King George V's accession, five cent pieces were first struck for the colony in 1918 featuring the same reverse design as previous issues with a partitioned ring design with 5 in the inner circle with
the legend, STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. FIVE CENTS followed by the date while the
obverse features the Mackennal effigy of King George V and the legend, GEORGE V
KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA.The issue was struck in all years from 1918 to 1920 with the 1920 being scarce having been withdrawn
and replaced mid-year with a larger, debased issue due to the silver shortage experienced after WW I.
