Sales History

?

In January 1901 King Edward VII acceded to the British throne with the first business strike fifty cent pieces struck in 1902. The reverse design features a partitioned ring design with 50 in the inner circle with the legend, STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. FIFTY CENTS with the date following. The obverse features a crowned bust of King Edward VII with the legend , EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR by Royal Mint engraver, George W. De Saules. The Edward VII series continues some of the scarcity associated with the Victorian issues though to a lesser degree with the later dates quite readily available probably due to the new design encouraging hoarding. Date set collectors should have no issue completing the set though the early issues will require significant investment if sought in mint state.
