Sales History

?

A prized first-year issue of the twenty cents and of any Straits Settlement coins, the 1871 piece is the key date of this series with the lowest mintage at 16,000. Numismatists have speculated that most of the early twenty cents once shipped back from Britain, the coins were spent through the different Strait Settlements and lost in time. (World & Ancient Coins CICF Signature Auction, 2012)

Interestingly most of the examples researched appear to be proof-like with square ridges and sharp denticles , this can perhaps be because of low mintage and fresh die. There have been a few big sales of the finest graded so far PCGS and NGC MS63. With only a few graded from both grading services, whenever these coins hit the auction block, they sure garner tremendous action.
